A checklist is how that survives a hot Friday afternoon, and it is what lets somebody else do the work to your standard rather than to theirs.

- Set the order of work once, then follow it on every property until it is automatic.
- Do the safety check before the engine starts, not while it is running.
- Blow last, and blow away from the areas you have already finished.
- Photograph the finish for the first month, with the client permission.

What order should I mow a property in?
Mow first, then trim what the mower could not reach, then edge the hard boundaries, then blow everything off the paths and the drive. Doing it in any other order means blowing clippings onto ground you have already cleared.
How short should I cut?
It depends on the grass type and the time of year, and cutting too short is the most common way to damage a lawn and lose the client. As a rule you never remove more than about a third of the blade height in one visit. The course covers deck heights by grass type in Unit 4.
Do I need a checklist if I work alone?
It is worth more when you work alone, because there is nobody else to notice what you missed. It also becomes the training document the day you take on help, which saves you writing one under pressure.
